Paradise and Pennant Candied Fruit

Cherry Scones with Candied Cherries

Scones can be tricky, especially when you’re looking for ways to boost the sweetness. The answer is usually to add sugar or shortening, which often ends up affecting the taste. But another alternative is to add candied cherries, which provide nice natural sweetness plus a little tartness, just for fun.



  • 2 ½ cups sifted flour
  • 2 ½ teaspoons baking powder, leveled
  • ½ teaspoons salt
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup canola oil
  • 1 cup or 8-oz. container of Paradise candied cherries
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup water
