Paradise and Pennant Candied Fruit

Chocolate Orange Cake

In the right hands, or at least the right balance of ingredients, orange and chocolate go together soooo well. That’s the case with this tasty cake that uses candied oranges for flavor as well as texture. The oranges take the place of nuts, and help create a rich, decadent flavor.



For the cake:

  • 7 oz semi-sweet chocolate chips*
  • 14 tbsp (1 ¾ sticks) unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 5 eggs
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 3 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup Paradise candied orange
  • Zest of 1/2 orange

For the ganache:

  • 1/3 cup heavy cream
  • 2/3 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • Additional orange zest, to top
  • 7 oz of chocolate chips is about 1 cup plus 2 tbsp


1. Make the Cake: Preheat the oven to 375°F.
